This enhanced firmware needs a key file only available to customers who purchased from http://www.himedia.com.au. Please do not use the so-called unlocked firmware. It won't work since we have blocked all unauthorised accesses from our server. @Himedia I'm happy to say that I bought from Himedia Aust and have a key file. However, I was interested to see this warning regarding the enhanced firmware. In particular, I had assumed that the firmware provided convenient access to the catch up programmes direct from the various broadcasters' sites. Does the last sentence in the statement mean that all these programmes are actually provided via your servers rather than directly from the broadcasters site? Is your server akin to a mirror of these other sites? If your site goes down, then presumably we lose access to all the other broadcaster catchup sites? Looking forward to the next enhanced version with this improved feature (how soon?). Regards

@Himedia
I'm very lucky that I bought from yourselves even though at the time I was unaware of the enhanced firmware. If I had bought from the 'unofficial' channels, is there a way to redeem that situation? I imagine some people who've inadvertently bought from outside Himedia Aust might be prepared to pay to have their hardware 'brought into the fold'.
Helping the broader Himedia user community with this option might be good for Himedia Aust and this community. The price would need to be at a level balanced to favour continuing Himedia Aust sales, to maintain the leverage of the enhancement feature and to cover the differential in price between the 'unofficial' sources and Himedia Aust.
Cheers

Well i bought my player from the UK, since it would be cheaper to ship and without import fees. Having the chance only to watch Austalian contend only if you buy from Himedia Australia seems a good model to force ppl to buy from you only. For custumers all over the world in general its bad. Since i dont think Himedia.com.au is sister company of Himedia-tech.cn, you are like any other internetshop that sells this player anyway. Another hint might be there is no mailadress or adress in general found at this Page only email adresses. Normally i wont order from stores with no real adress The "enhanced firmware" seems not offical aswell since you have to flash it with recovery flash. So its a modded firmware like any other found on the net based on offical HiMedia firmware. If the enhanced firmware connects to a server you host to enable different extra services what will happen if your servers break or shut down ? Also is it legal to share such a contend ? Personally i would care less abut the enhanced firmware. All i need i got already online streaming is just an extra. It would be wiser to provide a Menu and options to put in different services to choose from. So far i only seen Firmwares here that where Beta Firmware and later modded as enchanced firmware. Makes me think why post issues here if this is just an ordenray shop like any other found on the net while the company that brings out offical and beta firmware is in china and run an own BBS ?

Yeah Andi,
I think you're right... Himedia Australia are targetting Australian users (TV viewers) with it's enhanced firmware. They would be aware that this offers little interest to non-Australian users. These TV catch up Channels are a great enhancement for us and I'm very happy that I chose to purchase locally rather than overseas. Should I ever experience problems, I expect that the warranty support will be more convenient for me.
Perhaps there is a local supplier in the UK that could develop enhancements for your area and provide a specialised bulletin board that will supplement your users. Australia is a very small market relative to your part of the world, so I am quite impressed that Himedia Australia has gone to this extent to support local users here!
cheers

I agree with Andi also, Us brits need a wizzkid to mod our media players.
As I've said before, Its a shame that there isn't someone who hacks and releases new modded versions regular like they do with the Android software, I bring up the Android subject here purely because that uses the same busybox that the HiMedia uses.

@himedia (aust)
How soon can we expect the enhanced software? Will you be providing this against the new firmware 1.0.4.21? Perhaps you could provide this as an addon package so that we can transfer the enhancement ourselves, each time the official firmware is re-issued?
Looking forward to moving up from 1.0.3.3.1
cheers
